When Meghan arrived home, her husband and dogs were nowhere in sight; she looked all over the house and then realized they were all in the backyard.

Meghan peeked out the windows and gasped as she witnessed Jack standing up and tossing a frisbee as Dash skirted through the yard to chase it. The dog came up and tackled Jack, and Jack was grinning as he rolled around on the ground with Dash.

She felt anger rise in her throat. Her husband clearly was not injured; it was glaringly apparent that he had been lying to her for days now, and she was determined to find out why.

Meghan marched downstairs and out into the backyard. Jack’s blue eyes filled with horror when she made eye contact with him, and he began to paw at his leg.

“That’s enough,” she said with a steely look in her dark eyes. “I know you’ve been lying to me.”

Jack shook his head. “What? No, babe, this is... this is physical therapy. I’m supposed to do these things.”

She crossed her arms. “I ran into your doctor at the grocery store,” she explained as his face paled. “She said that your leg was barely hurt and that you should be back at work. Jack, tell me the truth. I know you’ve been lying to me, and if you could lie to me about something so stupid, it makes me wonder what else you have lied to me about...”

Jack stared at her in horror. “Oh, Meghan,” he began, coming over to her with a normal stride. “I’m sorry. I’m so sorry.”

She moved away from him as he drew nearer. “Don’t come near me,” she hissed as she took a giant step away. “I can hardly look at you. What were you thinking?”

He hung his head. “Meghan...”

“I feel like an idiot,” she frowned as she pointed to his leg. “I’ve been running around taking care of you when I have work to do, and you’ve been lying to me. Jack, we made vows to each other to tell the truth and to respect each other, but I feel so disrespected by your lies.”

Jack looked up at her, and she could see the tears in his bright blue eyes. “I’m sorry.”

“For what?” she spat angrily. “For lying to me about your leg? Or something else? What are you sorry about, Jack?”

He bit his lip. “Everything.”

She shook her head. “That isn’t enough,” she said matter-of-factly. “What are you sorry for, Jack? What have you done?”

Jack took a deep breath. “For lying. I’m sorry for lying about my injury. There’s something else I have to tell you, too. I lied about how I got hurt. It was so stupid, Meghan. I shouldn’t have done it.”

She placed her hands on her hips as she glowered at her husband. “How did you get hurt?”

“It was a dumb game of soccer at work,” he sighed, his shoulders sagging. “I was so embarrassed for getting hurt that way. It was so stupid, and Chief Nunan was so annoyed at me.
